Moscow, September 19: General Dhiraj Seth, the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), recently visited the Mikhailovskaya Military Artillery Academy located in St. Petersburg, Russia. His visit included discussions with faculty members regarding artillery training and modernization efforts.
During his time there, General Seth had the distinct privilege of firing a traditional cannon at the historic Peter and Paul Fortress, while both nations explored avenues to enhance military collaboration.
Following the visit, the Indian Army shared on X: “General Dhiraj Seth, COAS, during his official visit to Russia, visited the Mikhailovskaya Military Artillery Academy in St. Petersburg and was honored to fire the traditional cannon at the Peter and Paul Fortress. This visit allowed for discussions on training methodologies and artillery modernization, emphasizing the significance of institutional exchanges and the sharing of best practices to strengthen military cooperation between India and Russia.”
On Friday, General Seth met with General Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, the Russian Deputy Minister of Defence, in Moscow. Their discussions focused on enhancing the long-standing defense cooperation between India and Russia through joint capability development and increased military exchanges.
“General Dhiraj Seth, COAS, during his ongoing official visit to Russia, met with General Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, Deputy Minister of Defence. The discussions centered on joint capability development, professional military exchanges, and opportunities for enhanced military-to-military engagements,” the Indian Army posted on X.
Additionally, the COAS held a meeting with Vinay Kumar, the Indian Ambassador to Russia, where they discussed bilateral cooperation and strategies to strengthen defense ties between the two nations.
Earlier on Thursday, General Seth was honored with a ceremonial Guard of Honour and paid respects at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow, which commemorates Soviet soldiers who lost their lives during World War II.
“The COAS also visited the Russian Land Forces Headquarters, where discussions took place on mutual interests, focusing on deepening military cooperation, expanding training engagements, and enhancing capability development between the two armies,” the Indian Army posted on X.
General Seth's three-day official visit to Russia commenced on Wednesday, with the goal of reinforcing the enduring defense partnership and military cooperation between the two countries.
“This visit underscores the significance both nations place on sustained military diplomacy and Army-to-Army engagement. The interactions are anticipated to further enhance military cooperation and solidify the long-standing defense relationship between India and Russia,” stated the Ministry of Defence prior to General Seth’s visit.
