Controversy Erupts During Training Session

London: Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of the Indian cricket team, found himself embroiled in an unexpected dispute on Tuesday. This incident occurred during an optional training session at The Oval, just before the fifth and final Test against England, where he had a verbal clash with the pitch curator, Lee Fortis.

The disagreement unfolded during the nets, escalating into a heated exchange that prompted India's batting coach, Sitanshu Kotak, to step in and separate the two. While Kotak intervened to pull Fortis away, Gambhir, visibly upset, continued to voice his concerns from a distance.

Despite the altercation, Gambhir maintained his focus on the upcoming match, although the reason behind the confrontation remains unclear.

Tensions have been palpable throughout the series, with previous incidents adding to the drama. It all began at Lord’s when Shubman Gill expressed frustration over England openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett arriving late for their second innings.

The situation intensified in Manchester, where England, anticipating a draw, suggested ending the match early. However, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar, both nearing personal milestones, opted to continue, which led to a verbal exchange with Ben Stokes and his teammates.

The Indian squad arrived in London on Monday following a spirited draw in Manchester and attended a reception hosted by the Indian High Commission.

At the event, Gambhir reflected on the historical significance of India-England matches, stating, “Touring this part of the world has always been exciting and challenging because of the history between the two countries, which can never be forgotten. We have cherished every bit of support we have received every time we have toured the UK.”

With England currently leading the five-match series 2-1, the final Test is set to commence at The Oval in London on Thursday, following a remarkable partnership of 203 runs between Jadeja and Sundar that helped India secure a draw in the fourth Test.
