Gautam Gambhir Hints at MS Dhoni's Future Coaching Role
Gambhir Supports Dhoni's Potential Coaching Career
Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of Team India, has expressed his support for MS Dhoni to consider a coaching position in the future. Their recent interaction on social media sparked conversations among fans after Dhoni shared a post praising Gambhir's smile following India's T20 World Cup victory.
In a story posted on Instagram, Dhoni referred to Gambhir's combination of intensity and a smile as a 'killer combo' while congratulating him after the Men in Blue successfully defended their T20 World Cup title. Gambhir responded with enthusiasm, stating, 'And what a reason to smile, great seeing you!' on Dhoni's post.
Dhoni was present at the final match against New Zealand in Ahmedabad, where he joined Rohit Sharma to present the T20 World Cup trophy before the game at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
A Heartfelt Exchange on Social Media
The friendly exchange between MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir became a hot topic on social media after India's remarkable T20 World Cup win, witnessed by over 86,000 fans at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
During the RevzSports 'Trailblazers 4.0' event, Gambhir was asked about his Instagram interaction with Dhoni. He expressed hope that one day, Dhoni might take on a coaching role, allowing Gambhir to return the compliment and see Dhoni smiling from the dugout.
"Good on him to come and watch the World Cup final. Good on him to ask me to smile, and I wish one day he could be in my position, and I can write the same thing, and hopefully, he can smile from the dugout," Gambhir remarked.
The Possibility of Dhoni as Team India Coach
While MS Dhoni has not officially retired, he continues to play for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL after ending his international career in August 2020. He has taken on a mentorship role for young players in both Team India and Chennai Super Kings.
Although Dhoni lacks formal coaching experience, he served as a mentor for Team India during the 2021 T20 World Cup, where the team was eliminated in the group stage. Notably, he did not charge for his mentorship during that time.
Dhoni's future as Team India's head coach remains uncertain, as he has not made any official announcements regarding coaching. His ongoing involvement in business ventures adds to the ambiguity of when or if he might pursue a full-time coaching role.
It will be interesting to see if Dhoni decides to take on coaching responsibilities after his cricket career concludes, depending on his interests and the opportunities that may arise from the BCCI or franchises like Chennai Super Kings.
