Jorhat, May 4: In the ongoing counting of votes for the Jorhat Assembly constituency, Gaurav Gogoi, the Assam Congress president and current MP, is currently behind BJP's Hitendra Nath Goswami after the second round of tallying.

As of approximately 10:20 AM, Goswami leads by a margin of 4,132 votes, with the Election Commission reporting 14,007 votes for him compared to Gogoi's 9,875.

During the counting process, Gogoi emphasized that the Congress party has implemented monitoring systems to ensure the integrity and transparency of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

He mentioned that the transportation of EVMs from secure storage to counting locations is being meticulously monitored across various districts, including Guwahati.

“This morning, EVMs were moved from strongrooms to counting centers under strict supervision. We have set up monitoring units in every district, along with a central observation team in Guwahati,” Gogoi stated.

Additionally, he highlighted that the party has established a clear communication protocol to handle any potential issues.

“Should any irregularities with the EVMs arise or if a recount is warranted, the information will be promptly communicated to Rajiv Bhawan, which will then relay it to the Election Commission,” he explained.

Gogoi also mentioned that he is actively monitoring updates from all counting centers. “We are diligently tracking each counting round. Depending on the final results, we will evaluate the outcomes accordingly,” he added.

The counting, which commenced earlier today under stringent security measures, is anticipated to proceed through several rounds before a definitive trend is established. Further updates will be provided as the counting continues.
