Gaurav Gogoi Engages with Jorhat Constituents Ahead of 2026 Elections
Gaurav Gogoi's Campaign Kickoff in Jorhat
Jorhat, March 22: The Congress candidate Gaurav Gogoi has initiated his campaign in the Jorhat Assembly constituency, visiting various namghars in the Sipahikola block to connect with the community and seek their blessings.
Wearing traditional attire, Gogoi engaged with local residents, listening to their concerns and identifying areas needing development. He emphasized a campaign focused on the people as he prepares for the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections.
During a press interaction on Saturday, Gogoi criticized Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, claiming that his lengthy political career has been characterized by self-serving interests rather than the welfare of the public.
“The people of Assam have observed his leadership for over twenty years, witnessing a politics that favors personal gain and family interests. His election affidavit reveals the extent of his amassed wealth,” Gogoi stated, asserting that such a concentration of power is unprecedented in the state's political landscape.
He noted that this perception has sparked a desire for change among voters. “Assam has never experienced such wealth and influence concentrated in a Chief Minister. Consequently, the public is seeking an alternative that prioritizes their welfare over private interests,” he remarked.
Positioning the Congress as that alternative, Gogoi underscored the party's collaboration with regional entities, including the Akhil Gogoi-led Raijor Dal and the CPI.
“We have united with like-minded parties to establish a government that emphasizes employment, development, and inclusive growth. This alliance signifies a shared commitment to the future of Assam,” he explained.
When questioned about the timing of the alliance with Raijor Dal, Gogoi recognized the dynamic nature of politics.
“In Indian politics, certain developments occur at the last minute. What is crucial is that this partnership serves the greater good of the people, and I believe it will enhance our collective efforts,” he stated.
Gogoi also adopted a respectful tone regarding his electoral rival, Hitendra Nath Goswami, highlighting the importance of ethical conduct.
“He is my elder, and I have sought his blessings. Ultimately, it is the electorate who will determine their representative. I am dedicated to contesting this election with dignity and fairness,” he affirmed.
Reiterating his broader political vision, Gogoi contrasted the current administration with the legacy of former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.
“The choice before the electorate is clear: do they want a government that serves itself, or one that adheres to the principles of inclusive governance and public service? We stand for the latter,” he asserted.
He also criticized the BJP's candidate selection, claiming that many nominees are “former Congress leaders who have previously undermined political credibility,” while asserting that the Congress has nominated “new faces committed to change.”
“I am thankful to the people of Jorhat for their ongoing trust. This campaign is about reconnecting with them and shaping a future that aligns with their aspirations,” Gogoi concluded confidently.
