Lions Secure Victory in Rain-Influenced Match

In a gripping encounter affected by rain, the Gaur Gorakhpur Lions clinched a thrilling four-wicket win over the Lucknow Falcons, led by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, using the DLS method during Match 3 of the UP T20 League Season 4 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Saturday night.

Falcons' Innings Disrupted by Collapse and Weather

After winning the toss, Lions captain Aryan Juyal opted to field first, a choice that paid off immediately. The Lucknow Falcons faced a severe setback, losing five wickets for just 31 runs during the powerplay. This collapse was highlighted by a remarkable sixth over from Prince Yadav, who claimed three wickets.

Satyam Pandey tried to stabilize the innings, forming a brief partnership with Delhi Capitals all-rounder Vipraj Nigam (10). Following Nigam's exit, Pandey found support from Ajeet Verma. The pair cautiously rebuilt the innings until rain halted play at 14.3 overs, with the score at 88/6. After the interruption, the match was shortened to 15 overs, and Pandey and Verma managed to add six runs, concluding their innings at 94/6.

Yadav Leads the Chase for Lions

With the DLS method in play, the Gaur Gorakhpur Lions were tasked with chasing a revised target of 100 runs in 15 overs. The chase began poorly as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) pacer Abhinandan Singh took two wickets in a fiery second over, dismissing opener Abhay Pratap Singh (10) and skipper Aryan Juyal for a duck.

However, Siddharth Yadav stepped up, anchoring the innings with a vital 39 runs off 27 balls. Just when the Lions seemed to be gaining momentum, Vipraj Nigam's impressive spin bowling brought the Falcons back into contention, as he took two wickets in the eighth over and finished with figures of 2/10 in three overs.

Palawat and Sharma Secure the Win

The pressure intensified in the 11th over when Navneet Kumar dismissed the well-set Siddharth Yadav, caught by skipper Bhuvneshwar Kumar, marking his third catch of the match. With 26 runs needed from 29 balls and five wickets remaining, Parth Palawat took charge, scoring a steady 25 runs off 25 balls before falling to veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar in a tense final over.

Needing just three runs from the last six balls, Shivam Sharma ensured a smooth finish, hitting a boundary to guide the Gaur Gorakhpur Lions to victory with four wickets remaining and two balls to spare.
