Gauhati University Introduces Common Entrance Test for Law Admissions

New Admission Process for Law Colleges


Guwahati, Dec 20: On Friday, Gauhati University revealed plans to implement a Common Entrance Test (CET) for students seeking admission to undergraduate law programs, including the 3-year LLB, 5-year BA-LLB, and BCOM-LLB, starting from the academic year 2026.


This initiative aims to alleviate long-standing issues and create new opportunities for aspiring legal professionals.


As per a prior notification, Gauhati University will oversee the admission procedures for all law colleges under its affiliation.


“The University is committed to ensuring that the principles of reservation and merit are upheld in their genuine essence,” the notification emphasized.


The CET will be conducted as a centrally managed entrance exam, designed to promote transparency, consistency, and fairness in the admissions process across all affiliated institutions offering undergraduate legal education.


Additionally, the university has urged the heads of all affiliated law colleges to provide their support and cooperation for the successful execution of the Common Entrance Test.
