Gaganjeet Bhullar Climbs Leaderboard at IGPL Invitational Ahmedabad
Bhullar's Impressive Comeback
Gaganjeet Bhullar made a remarkable return to the course, showcasing his talent by scoring four birdies in the final eight holes of his second round at the Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL) Invitational in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. After finishing the first round at 1-under, he improved significantly, carding a 5-under with six birdies and one bogey, bringing his total to 6-under with one round remaining. Notably, Bhullar achieved a hole-in-one during the first round.
Chasing a Historic Third Win
Bhullar is in pursuit of the international competitors, Indian American Manav Shah (67) and Mexican Santiago de la Fuentes (70), who currently lead at 7-under, one stroke ahead of him. A press release from IGPL noted that if either Shah or Fuentes secures a victory, they will be the first international players to win in the inaugural season of the IGPL Tour. Bhullar, recognized as India's most successful player on the Asian Tour, aims for his third consecutive win on the IGPL Tour after victories in the first two events of the season held in Chandigarh and Jaypee Greens. After skipping six events to participate in International Series tournaments and attend to family matters, a win would make him the first player to achieve three wins on the IGPL Tour. The only other player with two wins on the IGPL is Aman Ran.
Second Round Highlights
In the second round, Bhullar shares third place with rookie pro Raghav Chugh (68), who also stands at 6-under after two days. Chugh started poorly at 2-over in the first five holes but turned things around with an eagle on the Par-4 sixth, followed by a birdie on the eighth and three more on the back nine.
Shah, a previous winner on the PGA Tour of Latin America, recorded one birdie on the front nine and four on the back nine without any bogeys. Fuentes, a former champion of the Latin America Amateur championships and a Major participant, shot a 70 with five birdies, including two on the 16th and 17th holes, but also had three bogeys.
Leaderboard Changes
While Bhullar, Shah, Chugh, and Fuentes excelled in the second round, young Veer Ganapathy, who had an impressive 8-under on the first day, fell to 3-over on the second day, now tied for fifth with a total of 5-under. He shares this position with Karandeep Kochhar (69).
Other notable players include Indian American Varun Chopra (68), young Kartik Singh (70), and Filipino Justin Quiban (70), all tied for seventh. The legendary SSP Chawrasia (72) and Sachin Baisoya (73) complete the Top-10, both at 3-under.
