Gagan Narang Unveils 'ABHYAS': A Free Digital Diary for Shooting Athletes

Gagan Narang, the 2012 Olympic bronze medallist, has launched 'ABHYAS', a free digital shooting diary aimed at helping athletes document their training and track their performance. This initiative, part of Project Amarjeet, is designed to make training tools accessible to all shooters, regardless of their financial situation. With features like digital diaries, performance tracking, and technical observations, ABHYAS seeks to enhance the training experience for athletes. The platform will be available at no cost, ensuring that every shooter can benefit from this resource. Interested athletes and coaches can register their interest ahead of the official launch.

Introduction to ABHYAS

Gagan Narang, who won a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics and serves as the Vice President of the Indian Olympic Association, has partnered with fellow Olympian and Arjuna Awardee Anuraj Singh to introduce 'ABHYAS'. This digital shooting diary is part of Project Amarjeet and aims to assist shooting athletes in documenting their training, monitoring their progress, and enhancing their performance insights over time.

What is ABHYAS?

The name ABHYAS translates to 'A Blueprint of Honing Your Accuracy in Shooting'. This platform will be offered at no cost, ensuring that athletes can access digital tools for training documentation and performance analysis without financial barriers, as stated in a recent press release.

Purpose and Benefits

Recognizing the importance of training diaries in an athlete's growth, ABHYAS aims to provide a systematic method for recording practice sessions, competition results, technical notes, and equipment modifications. The platform is specifically tailored for Olympic rifle and pistol shooting disciplines.

A Resource for Every Shooter

Narang emphasized the significance of maintaining a training diary throughout his career, stating, "It helped me analyze my performance beyond mere scores. I could reflect on training sessions, spot trends, and determine what was effective and what required improvement. Our goal is to make this practice available to all shooters through ABHYAS. This platform will always be free, as access to such resources should not be dictated by financial means. While technology can enhance understanding of training, the dedication and discipline must come from the athletes themselves. We aspire to provide shooters with a supportive resource throughout their journey."

Features of the Platform

The ABHYAS platform is being designed to include various features such as digital training and competition diaries, shot plotting, performance tracking, equipment logs, and sections for technical notes and personal reflections. These functionalities are aimed at helping athletes maintain a consistent training record and recognize performance patterns over time.

Facilitating Coach-Athlete Communication

ABHYAS also seeks to enhance dialogue between athletes and coaches by providing a comprehensive record of training sessions, technical modifications, and progress updates. For young and aspiring shooters, cultivating the habit of documenting and reviewing their training can foster a deeper awareness of their performance and highlight areas needing improvement.

About Project Amarjeet

This initiative is part of Project Amarjeet, which was founded by Narang and Singh in memory of Narang's mother, Amarjit Narang. The launch is timed to coincide with her birth anniversary, adding personal significance to the project. Through Project Amarjeet, Narang and Singh aim to enhance the shooting ecosystem in India by improving access to resources and support for athletes at various stages of their careers.
