Guwahati, Aug 29: On Friday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared that from January 1, 2026, all elected representatives of panchayats and their families will receive complimentary medical care.

This announcement was made during the Panchayat Representatives’ Convention held in Khanapara, Guwahati.

Sarma stated, “Our administration will extend free medical services to all elected panchayat representatives and their families, similar to the benefits enjoyed by state government employees.”

He encouraged panchayat representatives to commit themselves to fostering a corruption-free Assam and enhancing governance at the grassroots level.

Emphasizing the NDA's success in the recent panchayat elections, Sarma noted that the alliance triumphed in 301 out of 379 Zila Parishad constituencies. At the Anchalik Panchayat level, the NDA secured 1,445 out of 2,188 seats, and at the ward level, it won 21,920 seats, which he termed a historic achievement.

Expressing gratitude to the people of Assam for their support, Sarma reaffirmed the government's dedication to the jati-mati-bheti (community, land, and heritage) of the state.

“Just as our government has shown commitment over the past five years, we will maintain this dedication in the future,” he remarked.
