Riots Erupt After PSG's Win

On Monday, French authorities reported that nearly 900 individuals were detained amid riots triggered by Paris Saint-Germain's second consecutive Champions League triumph over the weekend.

"We have recorded over 890 arrests, which marks a 45% increase compared to last year," stated Interior Minister Laurent Nunez during an interview with a local broadcaster, noting that around 180 police officers sustained injuries.

The celebrations turned chaotic, with violent confrontations between youths and law enforcement in Paris and other cities, resulting in vehicles being set ablaze and shops being vandalized.

President Emmanuel Macron welcomed the PSG team at the Elysee Palace on Sunday evening. While expressing that PSG brings "immense pride" to France, he condemned the "unspeakable" acts of violence.

"Enough is enough. We are tired of this," he declared.

"This is not football, this is not sport, and this is not what we cherish," he emphasized.

Tragically, one individual lost his life while riding a motorcycle around the Paris ring road in celebration, with reports of stabbings and other violent incidents surfacing.
