Srinagar, April 23: Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar district announced on Thursday the apprehension of four individuals linked to providing logistical support to terrorists.
A senior police official reported that these arrests occurred in the Hazratbal region of Srinagar during a focused operation on Wednesday evening.
The suspects have been named as Zahoor Ahmad Mir, Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, and Shazia Mohammad, all hailing from Hazratbal.
“The operation yielded a hand grenade, 15 AK-47 rounds, four mobile devices, and a sum of cash,” the police stated.
“In light of these findings, a case has been filed against them under pertinent sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Arms Act, with further investigations underway,” they added.
Law enforcement and security personnel have intensified anti-terror operations throughout Jammu and Kashmir, targeting not only terrorists but also their overground workers (OGWs), sympathizers, and those involved in drug trafficking and money laundering schemes.
The revised strategy for anti-terror operations emphasizes dismantling the entire support network for terrorism, rather than solely concentrating on armed terrorists.
While the J&K Police and security forces conduct operations in the interior regions, the Army and the Border Security Force (BSF) are stationed along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border.
The LoC spans the Baramulla, Bandipora, and Kupwara districts in the Valley, as well as parts of Poonch, Rajouri, and Jammu districts.
The International Border runs through Samba, Kathua, and Jammu districts in the Jammu division.
The Army and BSF are tasked with preventing infiltration, exfiltration, drug trafficking, and drone operations initiated by terrorist groups from the Pakistani side of the border.
These drones are utilized to deliver arms, ammunition, cash, and narcotics to terrorists. The OGWs then collect these supplies and distribute them to sustain terrorist activities in the region.
