Four Arrested in Ganjam District for Gutkha Trader Assault and Robbery

The suspects, with varying criminal backgrounds, were apprehended after a special team was formed to track them down. Police Action in Ganjam District


In a significant police operation, four individuals were apprehended for attacking a gutkha trader and stealing over ₹4 lakh near Balarampur Square, located under the Nuapada outpost in Ganjam district on July 22.


The suspects have been named as Deepak Gouda, 30, from Jagannathpur; Jitendra Pradhan from Kumarada; Nrusingha Prasad Panda from Nuapada, and Kalia Das, 30, from Langaldei, all of whom are linked to various police jurisdictions. Authorities recovered a motorcycle, three mobile phones, and ₹1 lakh in cash from the accused.


According to police reports, Jitendra, also referred to as Jitu, has a history of nine criminal cases against him, while the others have at least one each. The incident was reported after the victim, a gutkha trader from Dhabalpur, filed a complaint. The gang reportedly halted his pickup van, assaulted him, and made off with the money. A specialized team was established to locate the suspects, resulting in their arrests across state lines.
