Singh, who is also the leader of the BJP legislative party in the currently suspended state assembly, mentioned to reporters at Imphal Airport that this trip is related to upcoming elections.
On January 16, N. Biren Singh's journey to New Delhi sparked speculation regarding the restoration of a popular government following the end of President's Rule in the state.
When questioned by journalists about the purpose of his visit, Singh provided a brief response, indicating that the central government would take action soon. President's Rule in Manipur is set to conclude in February, and there is growing speculation in political circles about the possibility of reinstating a popular government without extending the central administration's tenure.

This development follows a meeting held last month in New Delhi, where central BJP leaders summoned all party legislators from Manipur, regardless of their community affiliations. Nearly all BJP legislators attended the meeting, bolstering hopes for government formation in the state. Although no official announcement has been made yet, Singh's trip to the national capital has accelerated discussions regarding the political roadmap for Manipur's future. Meanwhile, Sharda, who also traveled to the capital, did not engage with reporters. Additionally, a BJP official stated that this visit is related to filing nominations for the election of a new national president.
Since May 2023, ethnic violence between the Meitei community in the Imphal Valley and the Kuki-Zo groups in the hills has resulted in at least 260 fatalities and left thousands displaced. Currently, President's Rule is in effect in Manipur, which was imposed on February 13, 2025, following the resignation of then Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on February 9 of the previous year.
