Allegations of Threats in Deoria Jail

Amitabh Thakur, a former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer currently incarcerated in Deoria Jail, has reported receiving death threats. In light of this situation, he has requested to appear in court for his bail hearing.

On Friday, Thakur submitted an application to District Judge Dhanendra Pratap Singh, seeking to be present during the bail proceedings scheduled for Saturday.

The judge instructed that Thakur's application be filed alongside his bail petition. He has been in custody since December 10, 2025, related to an industrial land allocation case, and has faced multiple obstacles in his bail hearings.

The application revealed that a typed note containing abusive language and threats was found outside Thakur's barrack. His attorney, Praveen Dwivedi, emphasized that Thakur's safety in jail is at serious risk.

Jail Superintendent Prem Sagar Shukla confirmed that Thakur had informed the authorities about the threatening note discovered near his barrack. He added that an investigation into the matter is ongoing. A hearing regarding Thakur's regular bail and anticipatory bail for his wife, Nutan Thakur, is also set for Saturday.

Thakur wishes to personally present arguments in court regarding both cases to ensure that no details are overlooked. Police and jail officials stated that further actions would depend on the results of the investigation into the alleged threats.
