Amitabh Thakur Enters Race for CEO of Ram Janmabhoomi Trust

The competition for the role of the first Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has gained attention, with former IPS officer Amitabh Thakur submitting his application for the position. Thakur, who belongs to the 1992 batch of the UP cadre, was mandated to retire from service by the Ministry of Home Affairs on March 23, 2021. This decision was made based on several departmental inquiries and disciplinary complaints, which deemed him 'unfit for continued service in the public interest.' Had this not occurred, he would have remained in service until 2028.

Political Aspirations and Recent Developments

Following his mandatory retirement, Thakur announced the formation of a new political party named 'Adhikar Sena.' He also expressed intentions to contest in the 2022 assembly elections but later opted out of running. The timing of this CEO selection is crucial for the temple administration, especially as the trust has faced scrutiny over alleged misappropriation of donations from devotees, prompting calls for enhanced oversight and transparency in temple operations.

Focus on Ayodhya and Trust's Future

All eyes are now on Ayodhya as the trust prepares to finalize the appointment. The new CEO will be responsible for overseeing daily operations, implementing trust decisions, managing finances and staff, and ensuring smooth operations amidst the increasing number of pilgrims. The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has invited applications for the CEO position, with a deadline set for July 18.

Importance of the CEO Appointment

A post shared on the social media platform 'X' indicated that applications would be accepted until 4 PM on the deadline date. This appointment is deemed significant, especially in light of the allegations regarding the misappropriation of temple donations, which led the trust to create this position to strengthen its administrative and financial management. According to the notification issued by the trust, the CEO will initially be appointed on a three-year contract, which may be extended based on satisfactory performance.
