Incident Overview

Authorities reported that an SUV collided with several individuals in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, on Thursday, resulting in injuries to five people. Allegations have surfaced that the vehicle was driven by the son of a BJP legislator. Dinesh Lodhi, the son of Pichhor MLA Preetam Lodhi, was reportedly operating his Mahindra Thar around 7:30 PM in the Karera area.

According to police, the SUV first struck a motorcycle from behind, injuring three friends—Sanjay, Aashish, and Anshul Parihar—who were en route to Dhanra village. The vehicle then hit two women, Sita Verma and Pooja Soni, who were walking on the same side of the road. Sanjay Parihar sustained serious injuries, while the others suffered various injuries to their heads, arms, legs, and shoulders. Bystanders quickly transported the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Details of the Incident

The police confirmed that the SUV bore the designation 'MLA' and, based on witness statements, Dinesh Lodhi was behind the wheel at the time of the incident. A video of the aftermath has since gone viral, showing Lodhi arguing with bystanders and blaming the victims for not clearing the road. He was heard questioning why they did not move when he was honking and using the siren, while also attempting to prevent onlookers from recording the scene.

A case has been filed against him under Section 281 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which pertains to reckless and dangerous driving that endangers lives. Vinod Chawai, the officer in charge of the Karera police station, stated that further investigations are ongoing. MLA Preetam Lodhi emphasized the need for the police to conduct a fair investigation and ensure justice for the victims. The new Section 281 of the BNS, 2023, has replaced the previous IPC section regarding this offense.
