Fit India Sundays on Cycle Event in Hanol
The 85th edition of 'Fit India Sundays on Cycle' took place in the picturesque village of Hanol, located in Bhavnagar district, on Sunday morning. The event was spearheaded by Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports, as well as Labour & Employment.
As per a release from SAI Media, this event was themed around 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan' and was held near the Amrut Sarovar, which is close to Mandaviya's ancestral home. Earlier this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated the 'Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan' to combat drug addiction.
Highlights and Activities of the Event
The program commenced with a lively dance session featuring popular Hindi film songs, followed by attendees showcasing their Garba dance skills. Mandaviya then led the participants in taking an anti-drug oath before embarking on a cycling journey. The cycling group covered a distance of 6.2 kilometers through the scenic landscapes of Hanol village.
The Movement's Expansion
After the cycling event, Mandaviya expressed to SAI Media that 'FIT India- Sundays on Cycle' has gained significant traction, extending its reach to rural areas and promoting PM Modi's Fit India initiative. The program is now being conducted at 18,000 locations, indicating a growing public commitment to the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
He remarked, "I am thrilled that this initiative has transformed into a substantial movement supporting the Prime Minister's 'Fit India Movement'. Young individuals across over 18,000 sites nationwide are sending a strong message through cycling."
Community Engagement and Activities
The event saw enthusiastic participation from My Bharat volunteers, cycling fans, NSS members, and local residents. In addition to cycling, there was a vibrant game zone featuring activities such as volleyball, chess, carrom, and badminton.
Overview of 'Fit India Sundays on Cycle'
'Fit India Sundays on Cycle' was launched by Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in December 2024. It is organized by the Sports Authority of India in collaboration with various organizations, including the Cycling Federation of India, Indian Rope Skipping Federation, Yogasana Bharat, Raahgiri Foundation, MY Bikes, and MY Bharat.
This cycling initiative is executed simultaneously across all States and Union Territories, including SAI Regional Centres, National Centres of Excellence, SAI Training Centres, Khelo India State Centres of Excellence, and Khelo India Centres.
