COVID-19 Case Emerges in Arunachal Pradesh

The first case of the current COVID-19 wave has been identified in Arunachal Pradesh, as confirmed by a senior official from the state's health department on Wednesday. State surveillance officer Lobsang Jampa reported that a mother and daughter tested positive for the virus through RT-PCR testing conducted on Tuesday.

The 34-year-old pregnant woman experienced fever and mild cough on Monday, prompting her to undergo a rapid antigen test, which returned positive. Jampa stated, "The RT-PCR test conducted on Tuesday confirmed the infection in the woman."

The woman had traveled from Bengaluru to Itanagar on May 13. Her 53-year-old mother also tested positive in the RT-PCR report, although she is asymptomatic.

According to officials, the pregnant woman is currently receiving treatment in the hospital, while her mother has been placed in isolation. Jampa urged the public not to panic, emphasizing that the new variant of the virus is not more severe than previous strains.

He added, "The health department is closely monitoring the situation and is taking all necessary measures to prevent the spread of the infection." A detailed public health advisory will be issued soon in consultation with the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in Delhi.
