Incident Reported Off Qatar's Coast

A vessel experienced a fire after being struck by an unidentified projectile off the coast of Qatar, according to reports from a British military source. The United Kingdom’s Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) confirmed that the incident occurred approximately 23 nautical miles northeast of Doha, the capital of Qatar. The bulk carrier reported being hit by an 'unknown projectile,' which resulted in a small fire that has since been extinguished. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, and the UKMTO indicated that there was no environmental damage.

The cause of the fire remains unclear. This incident comes at a time of escalating tensions between Iran and the United States in the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial maritime route that facilitates a significant portion of the global oil supply.

In a related event, a wooden dhow carrying general cargo and 18 Indian crew members caught fire and capsized near the Strait of Hormuz. Fortunately, all crew members were rescued by a nearby vessel, although one Indian national tragically lost their life, and four others suffered burn injuries. The precise cause of the fire is still under investigation.

According to a Government of India source, the injured crew members are currently receiving medical care in Dubai. Officials from the Indian Consulate met with the rescued individuals shortly after the incident and are in contact with the dhow's owner to provide necessary assistance. The Indian Mission in Dubai confirmed on social media that they are actively supporting the affected crew members.
