Incident Overview

A fire erupted in a chemical storage facility located in the Burrabazar area of Kolkata on Thursday afternoon, as reported by a senior official. The blaze was first noticed around 2:45 PM, with thick black smoke billowing from the warehouse near Bonfield Road, prompting local residents to alert the fire department.

The official indicated that the presence of a large quantity of chemicals inside the warehouse contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. Initially, two fire engines were dispatched to combat the flames, but as the situation escalated, a total of seven vehicles were deployed.

Due to the hazardous materials involved, firefighters opted to use foam instead of water to extinguish the flames. The warehouse is situated in a densely populated area, leading authorities to evacuate nearby residents as a precaution.
