FIR Filed Against Former Sports Minister Over Messi Event Controversy

In a significant development, Satadru Dutta, the organizer of Lionel Messi's GOAT India Tour in Kolkata, has filed an FIR against former Sports Minister Aroop Biswas. The complaint alleges extortion, intimidation, and the illegal sale of complimentary tickets linked to the event. Dutta claims he was coerced into handing over thousands of tickets under threat of disruption. The event itself faced chaos as frustrated fans vandalized the venue after Messi left early. Dutta is seeking Rs 50 crore in damages and demands an impartial investigation into the alleged misconduct surrounding the event.

Allegations of Extortion and Intimidation

Satadru Dutta, the chief organizer of the GOAT India Tour's Kolkata Edition featuring Lionel Messi, has lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against Aroop Biswas, the former West Bengal Sports Minister. The FIR accuses Biswas of extortion, criminal intimidation, and the illegal sale of complimentary tickets and accreditation materials linked to the high-profile event that took place in Kolkata last year.

The FIR was filed at the Bidhannagar South Police Station on Saturday, calling for an investigation into Biswas and his associates regarding their alleged involvement in the distribution and monetization of access materials for the GOAT India Tour, which showcased the Argentine football star at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan on December 13, 2025.

Coercion in Ticket Distribution

Dutta claims that during the event's organization, Biswas pressured him for a significant number of complimentary tickets, accreditation cards, and close-proximity passes. The FIR details that Biswas threatened Dutta, implying that without his intervention, the event would encounter serious issues.

Under duress, Dutta alleges he was forced to surrender approximately 22,000 complimentary tickets and access materials. He stated, "These tickets were not given voluntarily but were obtained through persistent pressure and intimidation."

Chaos During the Event

The FIR follows Dutta's public accusations against Biswas and other officials regarding alleged misconduct during Messi's visit to Kolkata. The event reportedly turned chaotic as fans, frustrated by poor management and the early departure of Messi, began throwing bottles and attempting to breach security barriers.

Angry attendees vandalized the venue, expressing their dissatisfaction with VIPs and politicians who they felt monopolized Messi's time, leaving fans without a chance to see the star. Police had to intervene using mild force to control the situation.

Demands for Accountability and Compensation

Earlier this month, Dutta spoke out about the alleged misconduct by Biswas and others, highlighting security lapses and unauthorized access to the venue. He expressed concerns over how individuals managed to enter despite his control over ticket distribution.

Dutta has announced plans to seek Rs 50 crore in damages and intends to file a defamation lawsuit, insisting on an impartial investigation. He stated, "I have filed a complaint against the Sports Minister and his relatives, as well as high-ranking officials who entered the venue. The investigation must be unbiased."
