Finance Minister Emphasizes Transparency in Taxpayer Services
Commitment to Taxpayer Service
New Delhi, May 31: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman underscored the importance of tax department officials serving taxpayers with utmost transparency and integrity during a recent statement.
She stated, “It is our responsibility to serve the taxpayer. In doing so, maintaining transparency and integrity is essential to build their trust and confidence. I am confident that both the Board and field formations will continue to be sensitive and responsive to these needs,” as she shared on the X social media platform.
This statement came after the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) provided a detailed response regarding a business entity's application for GST registration.
The applicant had raised concerns about delays in processing their application. However, the CBIC clarified that the delay was due to the taxpayer not responding to a specific query regarding the designation of the individual who signed on behalf of the company.
In reference to Vinod Gupta's comments on LinkedIn regarding the GST registration issue, the CBIC noted on X that the application was submitted on May 26 (Monday) and was assigned to the Delhi State GST. The Central GST authorities were not involved in this case.
According to the Delhi State GST authorities, the case was promptly processed, and a query was raised concerning the missing designation of the individual who signed the Rent Agreement for the company. At this point, the ARN was pending a response from the taxpayer, which was communicated to them accordingly.
The application will be processed by the Delhi GST authorities once the required information is received, as explained in the statement.
Additionally, the CBIC urged the applicant to refrain from spreading misinformation on social media without verifying the facts.
