Introduction to the FIH Youth Hockey5s World Cup

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) is excited to unveil the FIH Youth Hockey5s World Cup, set to take place in Ismailia, Egypt, from December 7 to December 12, 2026. This initiative, led by FIH President Tayyab Ikram, aims to provide a platform for young hockey talents worldwide.

A New Global Event

In light of the postponement of the Youth Olympic Games in 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the decision to include hockey as a non-medal Engagement Sport at the Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2026, the FIH has established this new global event. It ensures that aspiring young players have a meaningful international pathway.

More Than Just a Tournament

This tournament transcends a typical World Cup by merging elite Hockey5s competition with educational and leadership opportunities. It embodies the Olympic Movement's values, focusing on athlete development and well-being, while empowering youth to become future leaders and role models.

Expanding the Reach of Hockey

The dynamic Hockey5s format promises an engaging experience for both players and spectators, introducing the sport to new audiences. Hosting the inaugural event in Egypt underscores FIH's dedication to promoting hockey globally, showcasing Africa's capability to host premier sporting events, and inspiring youth participation in hockey across emerging regions.

FIH President's Vision for Youth Empowerment

FIH President Tayyab Ikram expressed, 'The establishment of the FIH Youth Hockey5s World Cup is a significant step in our mission to empower the next generation of hockey players. It offers young athletes from all continents enhanced opportunities to compete at the highest level, develop holistically, and embrace the core values of excellence, friendship, and respect that our sport and the Olympic Movement represent. We are thrilled that Egypt will host this inaugural tournament, highlighting Africa's increasing influence in the global hockey landscape.'

Development and Leadership Initiatives

Prior to the competition, from December 7 to December 9, all athletes and team staff will engage in two development programs inspired by the Youth Olympic Games educational framework. The Athlete Talent Camp will emphasize hockey skills, Olympic values, and athlete well-being, while the Youth Leadership Camp will offer young officials and umpires leadership training, with successful candidates earning either an FIH Level 1 Umpiring Award or an FIH Youth Leadership Award.
