Life Sentence for Father Convicted of Rape

In Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, a local court has sentenced a 60-year-old man to life imprisonment for the rape of his minor daughter, a case that dates back over three months. According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on the night of April 11, when the 15-year-old girl was asleep at home. Her father, Vijay Ram, allegedly assaulted her while under the influence of alcohol.

On Tuesday, Superintendent of Police Omveer Singh reported that following an investigation, the police filed charges against Vijay Ram in court. The special judge assigned to hear cases related to the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act listened to arguments from both sides before declaring Vijay Ram guilty on Monday. He was sentenced to life imprisonment and fined ₹50,000.
