Father of Arrested YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra Claims Ignorance of Her Activities
Father's Statement on Daughter's Arrest
Harish Malhotra, the father of Jyoti Malhotra, a YouTuber from Hisar who was arrested on espionage charges, stated that he was unaware of her trip to Pakistan and never suspected anything wrong. Jyoti was taken into custody on May 15 for allegedly providing sensitive information to Pakistani operatives. Harish mentioned, "I had no idea; she told me she was going to Delhi. She never informed me about anything. No friends visited our home."
Details of the Arrest
Harish further explained that the police brought her home yesterday, where she collected her belongings and left without saying a word. He expressed his confusion, stating, "I don’t know what to say. She used to make videos at home. I never knew she went to Pakistan; she always told me she was going to Delhi. I have no demands; whatever happens will happen. If she has done something wrong, she should be punished." He added that before the COVID lockdown, she worked in Delhi and admitted he hasn't watched her YouTube videos due to having a small phone. Harish shared that he has been distressed and unwell for the past three days.
Allegations Against Jyoti Malhotra
Jyoti Malhotra, the YouTuber from Haryana, is accused of being groomed by individuals linked to Pakistani intelligence agencies as their 'contact.' This claim was made by a senior police officer from Haryana on Sunday. The officer stated that Jyoti was allegedly in contact with a Pakistani official stationed at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi during a four-day military conflict between India and Pakistan that followed a terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22. Shashank Kumar Sawan, the Superintendent of Police in Hisar, clarified that while Malhotra did not have direct access to information related to military or defense operations, she was indeed in contact with individuals associated with Pakistani intelligence agencies.
