A devastating road accident occurred in Kullu district on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and injuring six others. The incident took place when a Tata Sumo, transporting villagers who had just voted, fell approximately 350 feet into a gorge in the Lag Valley region.


Reports indicate that all nine passengers in the vehicle had participated in the Panchayati Raj elections and were returning home when the tragedy struck. The Tata Sumo lost control on a section of the road in Lag Valley, veering off before plummeting into the gorge.


Local residents, along with police and district administration officials, quickly initiated a large-scale rescue operation. The injured were extracted from the wreckage and transported to the Regional Hospital in Kullu for medical attention, with some reported to be in critical condition.


Kullu MLA Sunder Singh Thakur expressed his sorrow over the fatalities, extending condolences to the families affected and wishing for the swift recovery of the injured.


In a statement to the media, Thakur mentioned that he was present at the Regional Hospital, overseeing the situation. He noted that despite it being a holiday, all medical personnel had been summoned to provide optimal care for the injured.


"The entire administration is on high alert. Police and district officials arrived at the scene promptly after the accident, and efforts are ongoing to manage the situation effectively," he stated.


Thakur also mentioned that the precise cause of the accident is still under investigation, as the driver is currently unable to provide a statement regarding the event.


He assured that every possible measure is being taken to deliver advanced medical care locally, expressing hope that some of the seriously injured might not need to be transferred outside the district if their conditions can be stabilized with available resources.


This tragic event has cast a shadow over the community, especially as the victims were returning from exercising their democratic rights. Authorities are continuing to probe the factors that led to this unfortunate accident.
