National Conference's Call for Statehood Restoration

Farooq Abdullah, the president of the National Conference (NC), stated on Wednesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that he would honor his commitment to restore Jammu and Kashmir's statehood.

Abdullah expressed that the NC is eagerly awaiting the central government's fulfillment of this promise. Speaking to reporters in Anantnag district, he remarked, “Recently, the Prime Minister told Omar that he will keep his promise regarding the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's statehood.”

When questioned about the delays in approving administrative regulations for the Jammu and Kashmir government, Abdullah emphasized that his party seeks not only operational guidelines but also the restoration of statehood. He stated, “The promise of granting statehood is the responsibility of the central government. We are waiting for it.”

In support of their demand for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's statehood, the National Conference has announced plans to stage a protest in Delhi on the first day of the parliamentary monsoon session. This decision was made during a meeting of the ruling party's legislators chaired by Omar Abdullah on June 3.
