Farooq Abdullah's Optimism for Regional Peace

Farooq Abdullah, the leader of the National Conference, expressed optimism on Wednesday that peace would soon return to the West Asia region following a temporary ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran that lasted two weeks. Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, Abdullah emphasized that dialogue is the only path to resolving conflicts. He stated, 'I thank Allah for giving both the United States and Iran the strength to come to the negotiating table. War does not solve any problem. There is no alternative to dialogue... We do not know how long it will take for peace to return.'

Impact of Conflict on Energy Resources and Local Lives

Abdullah highlighted the significance of energy resources for the world and the impact of this conflict on many individuals working in Jammu and Kashmir, whose lives have been disrupted. He further expressed hope that India would assist in ending this war, noting that many people working in West Asia send money back home. 'I hope India will help in this matter. We are friends with the United States.'

Criticism of India's Shift on Palestine Issue

Abdullah also criticized the sudden change in India's stance on the Palestine issue, stating that the country has supported this cause for centuries as it is a matter of justice. 'Suddenly, we have changed our position. This is not a good sign for our country.' These remarks followed the announcement of a two-week bilateral ceasefire based on a ten-point proposal accepted by the Iranian government, which included a halt to military operations and secure passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

Need for Continued Diplomatic Engagement

Although the ceasefire is temporary, global leaders have stressed the urgent need for ongoing diplomatic discussions to prevent further escalation and mitigate broader economic and security risks. Trump mentioned on Truth Social that the ten-point proposal would serve as a basis for negotiations towards a permanent agreement, reiterating that the United States has achieved most of its military objectives.
