Farooq Abdullah Calls for Peace in West Asia Amid Ongoing Conflict
Call for Peace in West Asia
Farooq Abdullah, the president of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), urged for an end to the ongoing conflict in West Asia on Friday. Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, he emphasized the need for peace and the welfare of the people, stating that the repercussions of this conflict are felt globally. Abdullah prayed for Allah to bring an end to the war, restore peace, and allow people to live comfortably, highlighting that the impact of war extends worldwide. Therefore, he stressed the urgency of resolving the conflict as soon as possible.
Escalating Conflict in West Asia
These remarks come as the conflict in West Asia enters its 21st day, having begun on February 28 following a joint attack by the United States and Israel against Iran, which resulted in the assassination of Iran's 86-year-old Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Following his death, his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, was appointed as the new Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic. Reports indicate that Iran is exerting pressure on the strategic Strait of Hormuz, leading to disruptions in oil, gas, and maritime trade routes, posing an increasing threat to global economic stability.
Diplomatic Efforts by India
This morning, the Ministry of External Affairs reported that Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with five world leaders on Thursday to discuss the situation in West Asia. He emphasized the need for dialogue and diplomacy while condemning attacks on energy infrastructure. During an inter-ministerial briefing, spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that the Prime Minister had conversations with leaders from Oman, Malaysia, France, Jordan, and Qatar. Jaiswal noted that Modi clarified India's stance on the ongoing conflict in West Asia, stressing the importance of dialogue and diplomacy to de-escalate tensions and restore peace and stability.
