In Srinagar, on August 5, National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah described the date as one of the darkest in India's democratic history. He stated that the decisions made on that day stripped Jammu and Kashmir of its constitutional guarantees, political identity, and statehood. Abdullah emphasized that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have rejected the August 5, 2019 decisions from the outset and are firmly standing against these 'unilateral and unconstitutional actions.'

He pointed out that the central government abrogated Article 370 of the Constitution on August 5, 2019. The NC leader affirmed that his party will continue its peaceful and democratic struggle to restore the constitutional guarantees, democratic rights, and full statehood for Jammu and Kashmir. Abdullah reiterated that the NC-led government is committed to passing a resolution in the assembly to reject the decisions made on August 5 and will prioritize the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's constitutional status and statehood in its legislative agenda.
