This victory marks CSK's inaugural win in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. During his appearance on Star Sports, du Plessis highlighted Gaikwad's impressive tactical insight and composed leadership, even in previous matches where CSK struggled. He stated, "Ruturaj Gaikwad's captaincy has been commendable. In earlier games, he made no tactical errors that hindered CSK's performance," according to JioStar expert du Plessis.

After being put to bat first by DC, Jos Buttler (115* off 56 balls, including 15 fours and four sixes) and Ayush Mhatre (59 off 36 balls, with three fours and four sixes) propelled CSK to a total of 212/2 in 20 overs. In response, Pathum Nissanka (41 off 24 balls, with five fours and two sixes) formed a 62-run partnership with KL Rahul, while Tristan Stubbs contributed a spirited 60 runs off 30 balls. However, DC's batting faltered as Overton (4/18) and Kamboj (3/35) consistently took wickets.
