Investigation into Misleading Videos
The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has conducted an investigation into videos featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Piyush Goyal that have been circulating on social media during large-scale student protests. The PIB's fact-checking unit has confirmed that these videos are deepfakes created to mislead the public. They clarified that neither PM Modi nor Goyal made the statements depicted in the clips, which are being disseminated by propaganda accounts from Pakistan.
Manipulated Videos Threatening Students
These manipulated audio-visual clips portray the Prime Minister and the Union Minister threatening protesting students with severe consequences amid widespread demonstrations in the capital and several states. The PIB stated in a release on 'X' that accounts spreading Pakistani propaganda are circulating a video of PM Modi that falsely attributes statements regarding the protests in Delhi to him, which he never made.
Call for Reporting Suspicious Information
The PIB emphasized that PM Modi has not made any such statements and urged the public to report any suspicious information related to the Indian government to their 'Fact Check Unit' via WhatsApp at +91 8799711259 or email at factcheck@pib.gov.in. Additionally, propaganda accounts digitally altered a video of PM Modi discussing the NEET-UG paper leak issue, where he promised strict action against irregularities in the examination system. There was also tampering with statements made by Piyush Goyal outside Parliament.
