Explosions Rock Dubai Marina Amid Rising Tensions with Iran
Explosions and Fires Reported in Dubai
Recent reports indicate that explosions have occurred in the Dubai Marina area, with numerous individuals sharing images and videos of a significant blast that resulted in a fire. Smoke was observed emanating from the 23 Marina residential tower, following an alleged Iranian missile strike. However, it remains uncertain whether the damage was due to a direct impact or debris from an interception. The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates has confirmed that the nation’s air defense systems are actively responding to missile and drone threats originating from Iran, as tensions in the Gulf region escalate.
In a statement released on social media, the ministry clarified that the explosions heard across various locations in the country were linked to interception efforts. "The UAE's air defenses are currently addressing incoming missile and drone threats from Iran," the statement noted. It further explained that the sounds reported in different areas were the result of air defense systems intercepting "ballistic missiles, drones, and loitering munitions." This announcement followed numerous reports from residents about loud explosions in Dubai.
Additionally, President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan remarked that the UAE is currently in a state of war during a broadcast on Abu Dhabi TV. While visiting individuals injured in the attacks, he emphasized the nation's commitment to self-defense. "The UAE has thick skin and bitter flesh – we are no easy prey," he stated. "We will fulfill our duty towards our country, our people, and our residents who are also part of our family." Since February 28, Iran has reportedly conducted strikes on Gulf nations in response to attacks from the United States and Israel, prompting the UAE to close its airspace.
The UAE consists of seven emirates, including Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Explosions were also reported in other parts of the region, including Manama, the capital of Bahrain, where sirens were activated and at least five blasts were documented. An Emirati official expressed the desire for Iranian assaults on Gulf nations to cease, stating, "Any sort of escalation is worrying. We want to contain the war. We don't want the war to expand." The official urged Iran to recognize that their actions are detrimental to their own interests and to halt their aggression.
