Incident at Ramgarh Steel Plant

On Sunday, August 9, a blast occurred in a furnace at a private steel plant in Ramgarh district, Jharkhand, resulting in injuries to at least nine workers, according to an official report. The incident took place in the Murpa village of the Kuzu area during the afternoon.

Manish Sinha, the chief factory inspector, stated that two of the injured workers were in critical condition and had been referred to a private hospital in Ranchi. He explained, “The explosion in the plant's furnace caused molten metal to splatter, leading to burns among several employees. The factory inspector from Hazaribagh has been instructed to investigate the incident and submit a detailed report as soon as possible.” All injured workers were admitted to a private hospital in Ramgarh.

Dr. Saurabh Kumar from the hospital reported that nine individuals were brought in with burn injuries, two of whom were in serious condition and required transfer to the Ranchi facility. The injured workers have been identified as Kunjilal Ravidass, Parmeshwar Kumar Mahto, Ramesh Thakur, Rajendra Mahto, and Sanjay Prasad from Ramgarh, along with Rajendra Mahto and Ritesh Rana from Hazaribagh, Dhananjay Singh from Patna, and Vijay Yadav from Darbhanga, Bihar. Anil Ranjan, the labor superintendent of Ramgarh, mentioned that department officials would visit the plant to assess worker safety measures.
