Ratangarh Wali Mata Mandir in Datia: In India, there are numerous miraculous temples dedicated to Goddess Durga, and one such temple is located in Datia, Madhya Pradesh. Known as Ratangarh Wali Mata, this temple has been a focal point of faith for many over the years.

The Legend of Ratangarh Wali Mata Mandir

Approximately 400 years ago, the Muslim ruler Alauddin Khilji imposed severe oppression on the people and restricted access to water flowing from Sendhwa to Ratangarh.

In response, Princess Mandula, the daughter of King Ratan Singh, along with her brother Kunwar Ganga Ramdev, strongly opposed Alauddin. This led to an attack on the fort within the temple complex by Alauddin.

It is said that Mandula, known for her beauty, and her brother took refuge in the forest to escape the unwanted attention of the invaders, which ultimately led to the establishment of the Ratangarh Wali Mata Mandir.

Kunwar Baba's Protective Powers

Adjacent to the Ratangarh Wali Mata temple is the shrine of her brother, Kunwar Baba. Legend has it that Kunwar Ganga Ramdev would go hunting, and the poisonous creatures of the forest would release their venom in his presence.

Thus, it is believed that when someone is bitten by a venomous creature, they invoke Kunwar Baba's name. They then visit the temple the day after Bhai Dooj or Diwali.

Interestingly, when they bathe in the Sindh River, located about two kilometers from the temple, they often faint. They are then carried to Baba's temple on a stretcher, where the mere splash of water restores their health.

A Symbol of Victory by Chhatrapati Shivaji

This temple stands as a testament to Chhatrapati Shivaji's victory over the Mughals. It is said that Ratangarh Wali Mata and Kunwar Maharaj appeared to Shivaji's guru, Ramdas, in Devgarh, inspiring him to wage war against the Mughals.

Following the decisive defeat of the Mughals and the Marathas' victory, Shivaji Maharaj commissioned the construction of this temple in Ratangarh, Datia. The temple is renowned for its miraculous powers across the country.
