Guwahati, June 7: A prominent delegation from the European Union (EU) is scheduled to arrive in Guwahati on June 8 for a two-day engagement aimed at enhancing economic and strategic relationships with the Northeast region of India, while also exploring new avenues for trade and investment.

This visit comes in the wake of the recent adoption of the India-EU Comprehensive Strategic Agenda, highlighting a commitment to increased collaboration in the Northeastern area.

The EU has indicated that both Europe and India are keen on strengthening ties in the Northeast through enhanced economic cooperation and strategic alliances.

The delegation's agenda will focus on developing value chains in sectors where there is significant synergy between the EU and the Northeastern states. Key areas of interest include renewable energy, sustainable urban infrastructure, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, semiconductor and electronics manufacturing, tea and agri-food processing, as well as AYUSH.

The delegation will include ambassadors and senior officials from various EU member nations, featuring Hervé Delphin, the EU Ambassador to India and Bhutan, alongside representatives from major European corporations.

During their stay, the delegation is expected to engage in bilateral talks with Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Additionally, a business group led by the Federation of European Businesses in India (FEBI) will meet with state officials to pinpoint potential trade and investment opportunities.

On June 9, the delegation will take part in a workshop titled "Blue Valleys: Building Ecosystems and Value Chains Between India and Europe," organized by the Assam government.

This event aims to unite European and Indian businesses to discuss partnerships in sustainable industries, innovation, and value-chain development.

The visit will also see the inauguration of Assam's inaugural Blue Valley Cluster, an industrial hub dedicated to fragrances, flavours, AYUSH, and food processing.

Designed as a public-private-people partnership (4P) initiative, this cluster aims to link Europe, the Northeast, and Bhutan through innovation, research, sustainable manufacturing, and business collaboration.

The pilot project, spearheaded by the Assam government, aligns with the Blue Valleys initiative introduced at the 2026 EU-India Summit.

The EU has stated that the Blue Valley initiative aims to foster industrial clusters, enhance MSME connections, and facilitate sector-specific value-chain integration between India and Europe, all while promoting environmentally sustainable economic growth.

Key sectors under this initiative encompass clean energy, natural ingredients, bamboo-based industries, eco-friendly textiles, biotechnology, wellness, and smart manufacturing.

"By integrating funding, skills development, and sustainability standards, the initiative aims to establish scalable business models that benefit local communities and connect them to European markets," the EU's statement elaborated.
