Government Employee Detained on Espionage Charges

Jaipur: A government employee has been apprehended in Jaisalmer on espionage allegations. The individual, identified as Shakoor Khan, works as a clerk at the Mangalia District Employment Office and reportedly traveled to Pakistan without the necessary departmental approval.

Previously, he served as the personal secretary to former minister Saleh Mohammad in 2008 when he was the MLA for Pokhran.

Reports indicate that authorities found multiple Pakistani phone numbers on Khan's device, which he was unable to clarify. He admitted to visiting Pakistan at least seven times in recent years.

Following intelligence reports, security personnel detained Khan at his workplace and initiated an inquiry regarding his travels.

Sources have confirmed that Khan, who resides in Mangalia Ki Dhani, Baroda village, is currently under investigation by the Joint Investigation Committee.

Various agencies are collaborating to further investigate the situation, particularly due to the presence of Pakistani contacts on his phone.

This arrest occurs amidst increased security measures across India following 'Operation Sindoor', a response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam that resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, primarily civilians.

Given Jaisalmer's strategic location near the Indo-Pak border, security agencies are vigilantly monitoring any suspicious activities. No official comments have been made by authorities regarding this case.

The Joint Investigation Committee is actively interrogating Shakoor Khan, who was apprehended at the employment office on Wednesday night.

Officials stated that various investigative bodies are working in unison to uncover the details of this case, emphasizing that Khan is being questioned for his unauthorized travels to Pakistan as a government employee.

Media reports have indicated that there were prior warnings about Khan's potential involvement in espionage for Pakistan, leading to his surveillance and subsequent detention.

A joint interrogation session took place in Jaisalmer, after which the team proceeded to Jaipur with Khan.
