Escalating Violence in Balochistan: Human Rights Violations Exposed
Rising Concerns Over Human Rights in Balochistan
Quetta, March 5: The ongoing violence against civilians in Balochistan has prompted a prominent human rights organization to report the extrajudicial killing of one civilian and the enforced disappearance of two others, allegedly by Pakistani security forces.
These recent events are part of a disturbing trend of extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances in the region.
The Baloch National Movement’s Human Rights Department, known as Paank, disclosed that the body of Fateh Baloch was found in the Mashkai area of Awaran district on Wednesday, nearly two months after he was forcibly disappeared.
Fateh, who worked as a driver, was reportedly abducted by Pakistani forces on January 13 while he was stopped at a Frontier Corps (FC) checkpoint with passengers.
“Fateh was the primary provider for his family. His abduction occurred without any legal justification, leaving his loved ones in distress and uncertainty. For weeks, they had no information about his fate, living in constant fear and hoping for his safe return,” stated Paank.
The organization condemned the circumstances surrounding Fateh’s death, labeling it a clear instance of extrajudicial killing.
His body showed signs of violence, raising alarms about unlawful detention, torture, and the ongoing issue of enforced disappearances in Balochistan.
Paank also reported that Minwar Akhtar, from the Absar area in Turbat city, was forcibly taken from his home by Pakistani security forces on Wednesday night.
In another case, Zameer Ahmed, a resident of the Taar office area in Panjgur district, was subjected to enforced disappearance on March 3 by military intelligence.
On the same day, the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) reported another extrajudicial killing of a Baloch civilian in Balochistan.
The BYC revealed that the body of 17-year-old Yahya Baloch was discovered at an FC Camp in Panjgur district on March 3, just hours after he was abducted from his home by a death squad supported by Pakistan.
The BYC emphasized that Yahya’s abduction and subsequent murder illustrate a troubling pattern where individuals are taken from their homes, killed, and their bodies discarded.
“The ongoing recovery of bodies in Balochistan highlights the severity of the crisis. Families are left mourning without answers or justice. The international community, human rights organizations, and legal bodies must urgently call for accountability to halt enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings in Balochistan,” the BYC urged.
