Escalating Conflict: Israel's Military Campaign Against Iran Intensifies
Ongoing Military Operations
In a significant escalation of hostilities, Israel announced on Monday that it has outlined plans for at least three additional weeks of military action, targeting various locations across Iran. This comes as Iranian drone strikes temporarily disrupted operations at Dubai airport and targeted a crucial oil facility in the UAE. The conflict, now in its third week, has effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, a vital passage for 20% of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas, leading to rising oil prices and concerns about a potential resurgence in global inflation.
On Sunday, US President Donald Trump urged nations to form a coalition to restore access to this critical shipping route, cautioning that NATO could face dire consequences if its members do not support the US. His appeal was met with a cautious response from allies, who expressed backing for diplomatic solutions but were hesitant about military intervention. Israeli military spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani informed the press that there are comprehensive operational strategies in place for the ongoing conflict with Iran, extending beyond the immediate three-week timeline. The military's objectives are focused on diminishing Iran's ability to pose a threat to Israel by targeting its ballistic missile systems, nuclear sites, and security infrastructure. Shoshani emphasized the goal of weakening the Iranian regime and degrading its security capabilities, stating that numerous targets remain within Iran.
The Iranian news outlet Mehr reported that overnight strikes in Markazi province resulted in five fatalities and seven injuries. The attacks reportedly struck a residential area near Arak city and a building in Mahallat county. Additionally, a boys' school in Khomein city was hit, causing damage but no casualties. The Israeli military confirmed air strikes on Tehran, Shiraz, and Tabriz, targeting what it referred to as the infrastructure of the 'Iranian terror regime.' Rescue teams in Tehran are currently working to extract individuals from the debris of a building located in a residential alley, as reported by an Iranian Red Crescent aid worker.
