Intensifying Military Engagement in West Asia

New Delhi. The ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States in West Asia has now entered its eighth or ninth day, with significant attacks continuing from both sides. U.S. President Donald Trump has ramped up preparations for a major assault on Iran, signaling a potential ground military operation.

Trump has engaged in extensive discussions with his advisors and Republican leaders regarding the possible deployment of American ground troops in Iran. He has made it clear that the conflict will persist until Iran achieves 'unconditional surrender' or its military capabilities are entirely dismantled. He stated, 'Iran will be hit very hard,' and certain regions and groups are being considered for 'total destruction.'

There are indications of Russia's indirect involvement in the conflict, while Iran has escalated its attacks on a regional scale. Iran reportedly destroyed the radar system of the U.S. THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) missile defense system located in Jordan, valued at approximately $300 million. This attack occurred at the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, where satellite imagery confirmed the destruction of the radar, weakening missile defense in the Gulf region.

Meanwhile, Israel has launched significant strikes at Tehran's Mehrabad International Airport, claiming to have destroyed 16 aircraft belonging to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Quds Force. These included planes supplying weapons to Hezbollah and some Iranian fighter jets that posed a threat to the Israeli Air Force. For the first time, Israel also targeted fuel depots and refining facilities in Tehran, resulting in large explosions and fires in the city.

The war has now spread regionally, affecting Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, and Gulf nations. Iran continues to launch missile and drone attacks on Israel, while the U.S. and Israel have destroyed over 20 Iranian naval vessels and several military bases. Trump reiterated his demand for Iran's 'complete surrender,' stating that there is no fixed timeline for the war—'It will last as long as it takes.'
