Erosion Threatens Historic Sites in Sivasagar Amid Local Concerns

Erosion Crisis in Sivasagar

Sivasagar, Dec 30: Ongoing erosion along the southern banks of the Brahmaputra River, particularly between Desangmukh and Dikhowmukh, has raised significant concerns among residents of nearby villages. This environmental issue poses a risk to two important pilgrimage sites: the Ramkha Pith located at Deogharia on the western bank of the Dikhow River and the Ajan Peer Durgah on the eastern side.

Residents from Aphala, Saraipora, Alimur, Saraguri, Dikhowmukh, and Rupohimukh have expressed frustration, stating that despite repeated assurances from local MLA Akhil Gogoi and government officials regarding a comprehensive plan to address the erosion, no concrete action has been taken.

In a related event, Union Minister of State Pabitra Margherita visited the Harijans (safai workers) in Sivasagar on Sunday, engaging with them to understand their challenges.

During the discussion, Harijans from Sivasagar, Nazira, Simaluguri, Jaysagar, and Mariani participated. The Minister pledged to address the long-standing financial issues faced by these workers.

He inquired if the Harijans possessed Aadhaar cards, Ayushman cards, and ration cards, encouraging them to utilize these benefits. Margherita emphasized that the BJP government is committed to supporting the underprivileged and deserving students in times of need.

Following his interaction with the Harijan community, the Minister distributed school bags to local children and shared a meal with them.
