Erling Haaland Reflects on Life-Changing World Cup Journey After Norway's Exit
Haaland's Transformative Experience
Following Norway's departure from the World Cup, Erling Haaland shared his thoughts on the experience, describing it as a pivotal moment in his life. He expressed immense pride in representing his nation on such a grand stage, emphasizing the team's commendable performances, the solidarity among Norwegians, and the joy that their historic run brought to fans.
Norway's journey in the FIFA World Cup 2026 concluded with a 2-1 loss to England in the quarter-finals.
Personal Growth Through Competition
"These experiences feel surreal; I believe this has transformed me as an individual. My profile has certainly grown, and it's challenging to fully comprehend everything right now as I reflect on our matches. Being part of such an event, which I once watched from the sidelines, is incredibly special," Haaland remarked, as reported on the FIFA website.
"I am filled with pride and deeply touched when I consider our performance, the unity felt back home in Norway, and the joy we've experienced both there and here," he added.
Historic Quarter-Final Exit
Norway initially took the lead in Miami with a goal from Andreas Schjelderup during a promising start, where Haaland also challenged England's goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford. However, Jude Bellingham equalized in first-half stoppage time and later scored again in extra time after Norway's goalkeeper, Orjan Nyland, mishandled a shot from Morgan Rogers.
England ultimately triumphed 2-1, advancing to face defending champions Argentina in the semi-finals, thus concluding Norway's most successful FIFA World Cup campaign to date.
This quarter-final appearance marked a significant achievement for Norway, reaching the last eight for the first time in their World Cup history after returning to the tournament for the first time since 1998.
Haaland's Impressive Performance
Despite the disappointing exit, Erling Haaland had an exceptional tournament, scoring in every group-stage match as well as in the Round of 32 and Round of 16. He finished as Norway's leading scorer with a total of seven goals.
