Enhanced Security Measures in Ranchi Ahead of Student Protest

Security Measures Implemented for Upcoming Student March

Ranchi, August 9 - In response to the ongoing protests by students against alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations, authorities have imposed prohibitory orders around the state assembly as they prepare for a planned 'Assembly March' on Monday. Extensive security arrangements have been established throughout the city. Amar Bauri, a leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has claimed that Aditya Sahu, the party's state president, has been placed under 'house arrest.' Bauri, the state general secretary, stated that the government will not succeed by deploying security forces outside Sahu's residence.

A police official indicated that necessary security measures are being implemented in anticipation of the proposed protests near the state assembly.

Manoj Kaushik, the Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters), mentioned that the police administration has been alerted due to concerns about potential unrest during the students' march. He urged students to participate in the march peacefully and in an orderly manner, noting that they have maintained discipline throughout their protests over the past two weeks. The ADG emphasized the importance of preventing antisocial elements from joining the march.

Rakesh Ranjan, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Ranchi, stated that maintaining law and order during the march is a collective responsibility. He expressed a desire to avoid any incidents that could tarnish a student's career due to disruptions.

Barriers have been erected at key locations in the city, accompanied by a significant police presence. The SSP confirmed that prohibitory orders have been in effect within a 750-meter radius of the assembly building from August 6 to August 12, with these orders active daily from 6 AM to 10 PM. An official statement noted that similar prohibitory measures have been implemented in Jamshedpur starting midnight on Sunday in light of the planned march in Ranchi.

The Ranchi district administration has urged protesting students to refrain from engaging in any violent demonstrations. They have also issued warnings regarding potential violence and illegal activities during the assembly march. Protesters have alleged that police are forcibly preventing hundreds of students from various parts of Jharkhand from reaching the capital.
