Robust Security Arrangements in Kolkata

For the swearing-in ceremony of West Bengal's inaugural BJP government, extensive security measures are being implemented at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata, involving around 4,000 police personnel, as confirmed by a senior official. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and several senior BJP leaders are expected to attend the event. A senior officer from the state police indicated that the vast 900-acre ground has been divided into approximately 30 sectors to manage crowd control and security effectively.


Deployment and Monitoring

The security plan includes the deployment of around 4,000 police officers in and around the Brigade Parade Ground, with each of the 30 sectors overseen by a police officer of deputy commissioner or assistant commissioner rank. The official mentioned that if necessary, central armed police forces could also be called in. Senior officials from the Kolkata police headquarters at Lalbazar convened a high-level meeting on Wednesday to finalize the security strategy for the event, anticipating a large turnout.


Safety Protocols in Place

Metal detectors and handheld scanners will be installed at the entrances, while CCTV cameras will monitor the entire area. The official stated that comprehensive arrangements are being made to ensure that no prohibited or dangerous items are brought into the venue. Surveillance will also extend to nearby rooftops. Additionally, the police indicated that traffic restrictions and route changes may be implemented on Saturday to avoid congestion in the area.
