As the revered Shri Manimahesh Yatra 2026 nears its peak, the district authorities are intensifying their efforts to ensure a safe, organized, and spiritually enriching pilgrimage experience. During a high-level review meeting, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mukesh Repswal emphasized the need for timely completion of all essential arrangements, focusing on security, basic amenities, and environmental stewardship.

Regulations for Pilgrims

A significant announcement was made regarding the Parikrama Path via Kugti, where pilgrims are now required to secure prior approval from the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Bharmaur. This regulation aims to manage the flow of devotees on this challenging route, ensuring their safety against potential risks from the terrain and weather.

Enhanced Security Protocols

DC Repswal pointed out that security measures will be bolstered through the deployment of police, NDRF (National Disaster Response Force), and SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) personnel. Their presence will facilitate crowd management, emergency responses, and assistance during natural calamities.

He reiterated that the pilgrimage, which draws thousands of devotees each year, necessitates a robust security framework to avert any incidents. "The safety of our pilgrims is our top priority. Through coordinated efforts, we will ensure that every devotee completes the yatra without any issues," he stated.

Provision of Essential Facilities

The administration has pledged to provide vital amenities along the pilgrimage route, including drinking water, electricity, medical assistance, and sanitation facilities. To effectively manage the extensive area, the yatra zone has been segmented into various sectors, each supervised by designated officials.

Communication capabilities have been improved with the installation of satellite phones at strategic locations, ensuring connectivity in remote areas where standard networks may be unreliable. This initiative is expected to enhance coordination among officials and facilitate timely support for pilgrims.

Strict Access Regulations

A crucial directive from the meeting states that external pilgrims must not access the Parikrama Path via Kugti without prior permission from ADM Bharmaur. This regulation is intended to prevent overcrowding and ensure that only those who are adequately prepared and authorized undertake the demanding journey.

Furthermore, DC Repswal mandated strict enforcement against tobacco consumption in public areas during the yatra, reinforcing the administration's commitment to maintaining decorum and respect.

Coordination Among Sub-Divisions

Instructions were given to the SDMs of Chamba, Salooni, and Bharmaur to finalize all preparations within their respective areas.

  • SDM Salooni is responsible for ensuring smooth access for pilgrims arriving from Bhaderwah and Doda (Jammu), with a focus on traffic management.

  • SDM Chamba has been tasked with arranging accommodation, drinking water, and sanitation facilities at Chowgan No. 1, a key resting point for pilgrims.

  • SDM Bharmaur is to oversee the final preparations along the main route, ensuring everything is ready before the influx of devotees.

Weather and Transport Management

Acknowledging the unpredictable nature of Himalayan weather, DC Repswal instructed officials to disseminate timely weather updates to all relevant authorities. He also directed the police to manage the movement of horses and mules carrying essential supplies, particularly at night, to prevent congestion and accidents.

Progress Update from ADM Bharmaur

During the operational review, ADM Bharmaur reported that preparations are nearing completion. The path from Hadsar to the sacred lake has been widened at critical points, and repairs to areas affected by last year’s heavy rains have been finalized.

Separate pathways for pedestrians and pack animals have been established, with signboards placed at necessary locations to guide pilgrims. Personnel from the Public Works Department and police will be on hand to manage traffic and ensure smooth passage.

Medical Preparedness

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jalam Singh Bhardwaj informed the meeting that seven medical teams have been deployed along the route. Each team is equipped with essential medications, oxygen cylinders, and emergency supplies to address health issues ranging from altitude sickness to injuries.

The presence of these teams highlights the administration’s commitment to health and safety, ensuring that pilgrims receive prompt medical attention when necessary.

Collective Responsibility

DC Repswal emphasized that the yatra represents not only a spiritual journey but also a shared responsibility. "Manimahesh is a sacred site of faith and a valuable natural heritage. It is our collective duty to preserve its purity and beauty. Pilgrims must work with the administration and respect the environment," he stated.

The focus on discipline, cleanliness, and cooperation reflects the administration’s comprehensive approach—balancing devotion with sustainability.
