Imphal, July 20: To bolster the safety of travelers on the 220-km stretch of the Imphal-Jiribam section of National Highway-37, a dedicated Highway Patrol Team has been formed. This initiative aims to combat extortion, ensure regular road upkeep, and facilitate smooth traffic flow.
The Highway Patrol Team, established by Deputy Commissioner Vidhyamari Sridhar of Noney, includes an Executive Magistrate from the District Administration, personnel from the Manipur Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), and representatives from road construction and maintenance agencies involved with NH-37.
According to a statement from the District Information Officer of Noney, the team will perform routine patrols and inspections to deter illegal extortion, address commuter concerns, assess the quality and progress of road maintenance, and ensure effective collaboration among all involved agencies.
The initiative also seeks to swiftly resolve any issues that may disrupt the safe and continuous movement of vehicles.
The district administration has emphasized that ensuring the safety of commuters on NH-37 is a top priority for the government.
All relevant departments and agencies have been instructed to collaborate closely to uphold law and order, enhance road conditions, and create a secure travel environment for the public.
In this context, DC Vidhyamari has urged transporters, commercial vehicle operators, and the public to assist the Highway Patrol Team by promptly reporting any incidents of extortion, intimidation, or other illegal activities to the appropriate authorities.
The district administration is dedicated to maintaining NH-37 as a safe, dependable, and efficient route for the people of Manipur.
The movement of goods trucks and passenger services along NH-37 has faced challenges in recent years due to ongoing conflicts, prompting authorities to provide regular security escorts.
