England Retains Same Squad for Third T20I

For the third T20I of the ongoing five-match series against India at Trent Bridge on Tuesday, England has decided to keep the same playing eleven. They currently lead the series 1-0 following a four-wicket win at Old Trafford.

Bethell's Stellar Performance Gives England the Advantage

The first match of the series was abandoned due to rain, but England secured a 1-0 lead at Old Trafford, largely due to Jacob Bethell's outstanding all-round performance. Chasing a target of 191, England faced a rocky start as Arshdeep Singh took out both Phil Salt and Jos Buttler for ducks in the first over, leaving the team at 1/2.

Captain Harry Brook responded with a rapid 39 runs off just 12 balls before falling LBW to Axar Patel. Bethell then stabilized the innings with a mix of composure and aggression, forming a vital partnership with Tom Banton, who also scored 39. Despite India making a comeback with wickets from Arshdeep and Varun Chakaravarthy, Bethell turned the tide by hitting Ravi Bishnoi for 29 runs in one over. His unbeaten 76 off 46 balls, which included five fours and five sixes, ensured England's dominance. After Sam Curran's dismissal, Bethell and Jofra Archer led the team to victory with six balls remaining.

India Sets a Challenging Target

Earlier, India batted first and managed to score 190/7. Teenage debutant Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made a notable entry with 14 runs off 10 balls, marking him as India's youngest international cricketer and the youngest T20I debutant from a Test-playing nation. Abhishek Sharma was the early top scorer with 43 runs, while Ishan Kishan played a crucial role with 49 runs, and skipper Shreyas Iyer contributed 37 runs. A late surge from Tilak Varma, who scored 17 runs in the last over, helped India reach a competitive total, despite England's bowlers, including Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, and Will Jacks, keeping a tight grip during the middle overs.

England's Squad for the Third T20I

The England team for the third T20I against India includes: Phil Salt, Jos Buttler, Harry Brook (captain), Jacob Bethell, Tom Banton, Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Liam Dawson, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, and Josh Tongue.
