Bethell's Stellar Performance Gives England the Advantage

The first match of the series was abandoned due to rain, but England secured a 1-0 lead at Old Trafford, largely due to Jacob Bethell's outstanding all-round performance. Chasing a target of 191, England faced a rocky start as Arshdeep Singh took out both Phil Salt and Jos Buttler for ducks in the first over, leaving the team at 1/2.

Captain Harry Brook responded with a rapid 39 runs off just 12 balls before falling LBW to Axar Patel. Bethell then stabilized the innings with a mix of composure and aggression, forming a vital partnership with Tom Banton, who also scored 39. Despite India making a comeback with wickets from Arshdeep and Varun Chakaravarthy, Bethell turned the tide by hitting Ravi Bishnoi for 29 runs in one over.
