End of an Era: Nitish Kumar Resigns as Bihar Chief Minister
Nitish Kumar Steps Down from Chief Minister Position
On Tuesday, Nitish Kumar, a prominent figure in Bihar's political landscape, announced his resignation from the position of Chief Minister, marking the conclusion of a 20-year tenure. Following his resignation, attention now turns to who will succeed him, especially since he has been elected unopposed and has already taken the oath as a Rajya Sabha member. The 75-year-old leader of the Janata Dal (United), known for his history of political realignment, is part of the NDA coalition led by the BJP. He submitted his resignation to Governor Lieutenant General (Retd) Syed Ata Hasnain at Lok Bhawan. This decision comes just five months after a significant victory in the Bihar Assembly elections, where the JD(U) performed strongly under the NDA banner. Earlier in the day, Kumar chaired a cabinet meeting, paving the way for the formation of a BJP-led government in the state for the first time.

Reflecting on the NDA's first formation in the state on November 24, 2005, he noted that the rule of law has been firmly established, and the government has remained committed to development. He emphasized that his administration has worked for all segments of society, including Hindus, Muslims, upper castes, backward classes, extremely backward classes, Dalits, and Mahadalits. Kumar also mentioned that they have prepared a framework called '7 Nischay-3' for the next five years, from 2025 to 2030, aimed at accelerating progress and advancing Bihar's development. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the central government's support in Bihar's growth.
