On Saturday, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports commemorated International Women’s Day by hosting an athletics event as part of the Asmita League initiative in Padhar, located in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh. This event, organized through the Mera Yuva Bharat platform, aimed to motivate women and girls to engage in sports, thereby enhancing their physical and mental well-being.

The competition included races of 100 meters, 200 meters, and 400 meters, attracting school students, young girls, and women from nearby villages. The initiative sought to raise awareness about sports among women and inspire them to lead healthier, more active lives.

Professor Anupama Singh served as the chief guest at the event. In her address, she underscored the significant contributions of women in society and stressed that respect and empowerment should extend beyond mere symbolic gestures on a single day.

She advocated for ongoing efforts to ensure equal opportunities, dignity, and participation for women across all aspects of life. Prof. Singh also encouraged the youth to actively engage in fostering positive societal changes and to support initiatives that advance gender equality and empower women.

The competition format allowed girls under 13 years to participate in the 100-meter race, while those aged 13 to 18 competed in the 200-meter race. Women aged 18 and above took part in the 400-meter race, showcasing their enthusiasm and competitive spirit.

In addition to the athletic events, the program included cultural performances, enriching the Women’s Day festivities. Many local women participated, including representatives from 20 to 25 Mahila Mandals, ASHA workers, and students, all contributing to the event's success.

Organizers expressed that this initiative aimed to enhance grassroots involvement of women in sports, boost their confidence, and encourage physical activity. They hope that such programs will inspire more women and girls to engage in sports and community activities in the future.
